Do you want experience in the healthcare field? Are you compassionate, organized, and a great communicator? Help us help cancer patients!
The American Cancer Society is seeking volunteers at the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County to provide hands-on support and information to patients, caregivers, and loved ones. Volunteers will work directly with patients undergoing radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy to connect them to American Cancer Society programs and materials.
Time commitment: 2 hours weekly or 4 hours biweekly, on weekdays during business hours for a minimum of 6 months.
Qualifications: Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Spanish-speaking or Polish-speaking skills are beneficial but not required. Volunteers must adhere to patient confidentiality policies.

Description
The American Cancer Society's Patient Navigation Services program at the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County provides guidance for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers to help them navigate the cancer experience, with a focus on eliminating barriers to cancer care for the medically underserved. Formally launched in 2005, the program links those affected by cancer to patient navigators who serve as personal guides for patients as they face the psychological, emotional and financial aspects of their unique cancer experience.
