ORGANIZATION: McCortney Family Hospice

  • 8 people are interested

Contrary to the myths, hospice care is all about a person's LIFE, not death. The goal is to make each individual's remaining days as high-quality as possible. Volunteers are a HUGE part of this mission, offering companionship, caring and practical support to hospice patients and their families. It's a uniquely fulfilling opportunity that gives you the chance to help those who need it most. Volunteers may help out by visiting patients, conducting activities at nursing homes and assisted living centers, sitting with patients in the home so caregivers can take a break, offering professional services like massage, music or pet therapy, helping out in the office, sitting vigil with patients who are actively dying, or working with bereaved families after a patient's death. Volunteers may contribute as many or as few hours as they wish, on a flexible schedule of their choosing. Notes one longtime volunteer, "When you volunteer with hospice your soul will be enriched. You will know that you have made a difference in the time that you are there."
