Make a Difference Today

In 2015, Brighter Beginnings VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Sites were able to help prepare over 400 tax returns and give back more than $500,000 to the communities we serve! And we need YOUR help to do it again this year! Volunteer TODAY!!

What is VITA? As a member of the Earn It! Keep It! Save It! Coalition for Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, Brighter Beginnings has the pleasure of being a VITA Site that prepares FREE tax returns for low to moderate income families and individuals earning less than $57,000 a year. We want to help people with their tax return, ensuring they receive the tax refund they deserve!

Who am I helping? The VITA program is a FREE TAX PREP SERVICE for LOW-INCOME TAX PAYERS. In addition to saving tax-preparation fees, low-income CLIENTS are screened for EARNED INCOME & CHILD TAX CREDITS that provide an essential boost to their yearly income.

What if I have never prepared taxes? FREE TRAINING is provided to become IRS certified, and takes approximately 24-36 hours to complete - all training materials are provided, and training is required in order to certify to prepare taxes. An Orientation will be held January 30.

We need all of our tax preparers trained & certified before tax season begins in mid-January 2016. Volunteers will take a test to certify. For returning volunteers training can be done online through Link & Learn that will become available in November - all materials are provided.

2015 Training Schedule: January 9,16, 23. 9am - 4pm in Pleasant Hill

What kind of time commitment is required? We ask that you commit to at least 4-Sundays of volunteering during tax season.
