ORGANIZATION: HealthRIGHT 360

  • 3 people are interested

We're looking for a superstar volunteer to join our team! This is not a boring paper-pushing position, you'll be working directly with our clients, community partners and staff to help connect adults to affordable housing programs in San Francisco.

ABOUT US:

HealthRIGHT 360 has been providing medical and behavioral health services to San Francisco's neediest folks for over 40 years. Our department, The Resource Center, is located at 13th and Erie Street on Mission street. We provide housing, employment and education services to clients who need some support as they try to change their lives. Our team takes a partnership-approach to working with clients and always maintains a sense of humor.

We’re committed to providing you with a high quality experience that will add some strong components to your resume. We’ll be sure to train you in the beginning and offer lots of coaching and support along the way.

ABOUT YOU:

We're looking for someone who is enthusiastic about providing direct service to homeless and low-income adults in San Francisco. This is a true non-profit setting which means that sometimes we’ll ask you to help move a table or make photocopies, but ultimately the amount of responsibility that you take on is limited only by your abilities and interests. A willingness to learn and excellent attention to detail are essential, as is a non-judgmental attitude when working with clients.

People who are impatient, unwilling to take constructive criticism, think that certain tasks are not worth their time, or are prone to extreme tardiness and frequent last-minute cancellations won’t fit well here.

Our work spans a lot of different fields (mental health, substance abuse, social justice, sociology, nonprofit and education to name a few) so we’re open to all types of candidates as long as you can tell us why you would be an excellent fit for our team. We’re thinking that this position is ideally suited for a college or graduate student who is looking to get some real-world experience but we’re open to all applicants as long as you’re over 18, have good computer skills (Internet & MS Office) and are willing to make a 3-4 month commitment.

KEY COMPONENTS TO THE POSITION

- Working one on one with clients filling out a master job application where you would assist clients in documenting information on their past work history.

- Other duties and responsibilities include working with clients on their job applications, resumes and cover letters, and assisting them in searching for and applying for jobs.

- Research job fairs and employment opportunities in the Bay Area

- Work on creating walk in maps and other employment resources for clients

- And lots more!

HOURS:

3 hours or more per week. Schedule and start date to be mutually agreed upon.

TO APPLY:

Please send a resume and answers to the question below to volunteer@healthright360.org

We look forward to hearing from you.

Mission Statement

HealthRIGHT 360 gives hope, builds health, and changes lives for people in need. We do this by providing compassionate, integrated care that includes primary medical, mental health, and substance use disorder treatment.

Description

History

To address the thousands of adolescents and young adults that were streaming into San Francisco for the cultural revolution of the 1960’s, Haight Ashbury Free Clinics (HAFC) opened its doors in 1967 as the first free medical clinic in the country. During the first week of operation over 400 patients were seen. HAFC has been an innovator in delivering primary health care services to many of the people who can least afford them. "Health Care is a Right, Not a Privilege" has been the guiding principle as well as its famous tagline.

Walden House was founded in 1969 in the same Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco to help homeless and runaway adolescents with substance use disorder problems. Today, Walden House treats people with mental health and substance use disorder problems at various residential and outpatient centers throughout California, including in-prison treatment programs, and facilities in San Francisco and Los Angeles, providing drug and alcohol treatment and mental health, vocational and housing services for people transitioning back into their communities. Like HAFC, Walden House has always served people who are uninsured, homeless and socio-economically disenfranchised, including those with HIV/AIDS.

Today

Haight Ashbury Free Clinics and Walden House have both grown over the years, becoming national models for community healthcare, substance use disorder treatment and mental health services. The organizations merged on July 1, 2011 to best serve the most vulnerable members of our community.

On July 1, 2012, Haight Ashbury Free Clinics - Walden House adopted a new name: HealthRIGHT 360.

With facilities in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, and the Central Valley, the organization is one of the largest healthcare nonprofits in California. HealthRIGHT 360 provided direct services to 23,911 individuals in the year that ended June 2013, most of them uninsured and facing additional challenges from homelessness, incarceration, or poverty.

Asian American Recovery Services joined the family of HealthRIGHT 360 programs in 2013. Founded in 1985, the organization grew to serve tens of thousands of people throughout San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara counties, providing prevention, outreach, intervention and treatment services, and also engaging in education, research and advocacy.

In 2014, North County Serenity House of San Diego County and Women's Recovery Association of San Mateo County added their programs to HealthRIGHT 360's array of gender responsive services for women and women with children. HealthRIGHT 360 now offers over 50 programs in seven California counties.
