Volunteers will fill mesh bags with oyster shell to be used for restoring oyster reefs along the SC coast. This activity takes place during the reef build off-season - fall to early spring. This is a great group event and is suitable for all ages, and helps build habitat and improve water quality. Calendar of scheduled events that you can join can be found at http://score.dnr.sc.gov

Description
South Carolina Oyster Recycling and Enhancement (SCORE) is a community-based habitat restoration and monitoring program of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. Oysters are critical to South Carolina’s ecology, economy, and culture, and oyster shell is the best resource to sustain oyster populations. Recycled shell is placed back onto the shoreline either during large scale plantings or volunteer-based oyster reef builds. SCORE works with over 4,000 volunteers every year in a variety of ways to help with these endeavors.
