The Literacy Council of Williamson County is currently seeking enthusiastic volunteers to work with adult GED and ESL students, either as one on one tutors or as class facilitators. No teaching experience nor foreign language skills necessary. The only qualifications are a positive attitude, willingness to help others, and ability to commit at least two hours per week during the school year. Volunteering is limited to days when Williamson County Schools are in session. Daytime and evening opportunities are both available. Mission Statement
The Adult Learning Center, established in 1986 as the Literacy Council of Williamson County, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of adults in Williamson County, Tennessee, through free programs that empower clients to develop reading, writing, conversation and math skills.
Description
The Adult Learning Center offers the following programs for residents of Williamson County, Tennessee. All services are provided to the public free of charge.
Small group math and language arts training
One-on-one tutoring in math, language arts, English as a second language, and high school equivalency.
English as a Second Language conversation class -- currently offered on Tuesdays and Fridays, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
On-site education at the county jail
High School Equivalency Program which includes graduation ceremonies
