Volunteer tutors are asked to commit to volunteering two days per week for 40 minute sessions between the hours of 3:00 pm and 5:40 pm for at least one semester. Tutors work one-on-one for 40 minutes with each student. Tutor sessions are held Monday-Thursday with Friday being set aside for additional training and to communicate with administrative staff about student progress. Each tutor is required to complete an application and is interviewed and screened through background and reference checks. Tutors complete orientation that covers tutoring best practices and the tutor program curriculum before they are matched with their students. CASP provides all tutoring supplies, as well as resources and teaching tools for tutors to utilize during their tutoring sessions. Tutors are matched with at risk youth and focus their volunteer time on literacy and reading as well as mentoring.

Tutoring is a rewarding experience where volunteers serve as mentors and see their students grow and learn throughout the year. This volunteer opportunity is perfect for education majors, those who enjoy working with children, or anyone who wants an opportunity to give back to the Norman community.
