ORGANIZATION: AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City/CSSNY

Volunteers are needed to greet pantry customers, answer questions, explain unfamiliar food items, assist customers, direct crowd flow and monitor clothing distribution. Training and orientation will be provided, hours and days are fexible.

This wonderful opportunity and so much more is available through the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program for individuals 55 and over in all 5 boroughs! After participating in a thorough interview with an RSVP representative, you will be placed in one of our 400 community-based partner organizations. We pride ourselves on helping you find the right volunteer opportunity to fit your skills and interests.

Mission Statement

AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City was started in 1966 by the Community Service Society (CSS), an over 170-year-old nonprofit agency. CSS's mission is to identify problems which create a permanent poverty class in New York City, and to advocate the systemic changes required to eliminate such problems. CSS will focus on enabling, empowering and promoting opportunities for poor families and individuals to develop their full potential, to contribute to society, and to realize social, economic, and political opportunities.

Description

AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City matches adults 55 and older with meaningful volunteer opportunities at New York City nonprofits. With more than 2,300 volunteers, our program is one of the largest senior volunteer programs in the nation. There are over 600 of us which operate nationally and many that do so internationally. We match volunteers on the basis of interests and abilities, community needs, geographic convenience, and experience.
