Description
The Courage to Speak Foundation is a nonprofit organization based in Norwalk, CT, saves lives through its drug prevention education curricula and programs for children, teens, parents, schools and communities. The organization was founded in 1996 by Ginger and Larry Katz, and is devoted to fulfilling a promise Ginger made to her son Ian, who died when he was just 20 years old of an accidental drug overdose - to do everything in her power to prevent this tragedy from happening to another family.
The heart of the work is the nationally renowned Courage to Speak Presentation, which empowers students, parents, educators and others to break the silence surrounding drug use and find healthy solutions in their schools and communities.
The Courage to Speak Foundation works with experts in the prevention field to develop programs that address youth substance abuse and has trained over 151 classroom teachers and professional facilitators:
- Courage to Speak Drug Prevention Education Curricula, which includes distinctive programs for elementary, middle, after school, and high schools, taught by classroom teachers
- Courage to Speak - Courageous Parenting 101 "Parenting Through the Opioid Crisis and Beyond", a free 1 session course that provides parents with knowledge and tools to keep their children safe.
