This is a federally funded program that promotes the school readiness of pre-school children from low-income families by enhancing their cognitive, social and emotional development. Volunteers assist the teachers to achieve their goals by:
- Reading to small groups of children
- Have "private time" with individual children. Devote all your attention to one child for 10-15 minutes, read a story or work a puzzle.
- Supervise children during outside play
- Sit and eat with children and assist them as needed
Ask the teacher for specific things to do with particular children.
