Mature adults ages 21 and up, needed to support new mothers by holding and comforting babies as needed. Volunteers my be able to take directions, be flexible and work independently, and communicate effectively and respectfully with families, staff and patients. Volunteers should have awareness of cultural competency, sensitivity working with diverse cultures and be comfortable working with children of all ages, families, siblings, and staff during stressful situations. Volunteers must be able to stoop, stand, and walk and able to hold up to 20 lbs. Volunteer will pass national background check and submit to health screening including flu vaccination, and complete all immunization tests and all other hospital related requirements prior to volunteering. Volunteers will have infant placed in their arms by a nurse and are not allowed to feed baby, do diaper changing or provide assistance with bottle preparation or give breastfeeding advice or support. Shifts are: 8 am - 12 noon, 12 noon to 4 pm, 4 pm to 8 pm, 8 pm to 12 midnight, Midnight to 4 am and 4 am to 8 am seven days a week. Nursing students are most welcome. Volunteers will make a commitment of helping on one shift per week for a 6 months.
