Off-site sales are opportunities to sell artisan handcrafts outside of our normal retail space. They are often at music festivals, fair trade markets, or churches and normally take place on the weekends. October, November, and December are the busiest months for off-site sales, with the potential to sell over $25,000 in product.
We are currently seeking an Intern who is passionate about Fair Trade to make this year’s off-site season a success. This position is perfect for any student desiring hands-on experience with sales, event planning, and managing aspects of a nonprofit organization!
Intern Responsibilities
- This person is the main coordinator for our offsite sales program. They will assist with staffing and coordinating of all roles involved with offsite sales, including packing, tracking inventory, driving, and unpacking. This person will be responsible for $20-$35,000 in sales this year!
- Choose products to be taken to offsite sales
- Setup and breakdown of offsite sale events
- Create signage for offsite sales
- Be an assertive advocate for Ten Thousand Villages of Austin and Fair Trade
- Assist with store and organizational tasks
- Help to maintain an active voice for Ten Thousand Villages on social media outlets, including information about events
- Be the voice of global artisans by providing customer service in our store and at offsite sales
Preferred Skills
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, electronic)
- Self-directed
- Passionate about fair trade and/or global social justice
- Customer Service experience
- Ready stepping outside of normal comfort zone to gain new experiences and skills

At Ten Thousand Villages, our mission is to help artisans in developing countries improve their lives through fair trade. We work with women, people with disabilities, and marginalized populations to help them break the cycle of generational poverty by ensuring our makers earn a fair, living wage in safe working conditions. Our retail store sells the beautiful, unique handicrafts these artisans create from over 30 developing countries around the world.
Our products include home furnishings, musical instruments, coffee, chocolate, jewelry, and toys. Through fair-trade practices, the artisans who produce these products are paid fair wages up front. We ensure that our artisans are operating under safe working conditions and are producing environmentally-friendly goods.
