Internship Announcement: Climate Action Survey Intern

(part-time, unpaid)

Do you want an internship where you are a part of a team of energetic people? Where you are growing professionally while making a difference? This is the internship for you! We offer mentorships, trainings, professional development, snacks, and more! We are proud to have one of the best internship programs in the environmental field today.

The Sierra Club Loma Prieta Chapter is a leader in the environmental movement and brings the slogan "think global, act local" to life in the Silicon Valley.

Climate change is a massive threat to humanity and not enough action is being taken to combat it. Given the limited efforts being made at the federal level, it is imperative that people and governments at the local level take action, thereby reducing local carbon emissions and also building momentum for more state and federal action.

The Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra Club is seeking two talented people to help document actions being taken by cities in Silicon Valley to combat climate change. This involves updating a survey of city activities last done in 2009 and then using the results to promote even more effective climate action in the future. Local policy makers and local climate activists will use the results of our survey to spur their cities to action.

  • Available to come to our office in Palo Alto for 4-6 months at least 8-12 hours a week, Monday-Friday, during business hours (some work can be done out of the office)
  • Passion for sustainability and commitment to Sierra Club goals
  • Has a personal commitment to reducing the impacts of climate change
  • Is computer literate
  • Has previous research experience, an ability to think strategically,
  • Is well organized and pays attention to detail, good writing ability, and likes working on a team

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing the climate action survey
  • Identifying survey recipients
  • Interviewing selected survey recipients
  • Analyzing and summarizing survey results
  • Identifying best practices
  • Writing a summary report
  • Participating in press conferences, presentations and other forms of public outreach to spread the word and spur local cities to more effective climate action

The Sierra Club offers a friendly, fast-paced work environment with highly motivated volunteers focused on making positive change in the world. Send resume and cover letter to megan.fluke.medeiros@sierraclub.org. Include a statement about what you want to learn in your cover letter.
