Are you looking for a way you can help a child? Become a CASA Volunteer. it is hard to imagine that in our community kids are being neglected and abused every day. The need for CASA volunteers has never been greater as already overburdened child welfare systems continue to have their budgets reduced. The stress that some families face puts children at higher risk of abuse and neglect. Every child deserves to live in an atmosphere where he or she feels safe and loved. CASA volunteers are trained members of the community who advocate for abused and neglected children in family court. CASA volunteers ensure that children do not fall through the cracks of an overburdened system. A volunteer follows a child's case as it moves through the family court system. The volunteer researches the case, learns everything they can about the child's special situation, and adds a voice for the child. The CASA volunteer then writes thorough reports to the judge on the child's situation and what may be best for the child's future. CASA of the Southern Tier, Inc. has set the dates for the next CASA 101 Initial training to begin in February 2024.

Description

Make a Difference in Your Community!

CVAC is a program of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chemung County.

CVAC provides education and opportunities for people of all ages to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. CVAC volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, hospitals, food pantries, and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. Our staff members work with agencies and organizations to offer individuals maximum flexibility and choice.

With CVAC you can either enroll as a Cornell Cooperative Extension volunteer to work directly with our programs, or sign you up as an affiliated volunteer and work with any number of partner agencies. In both cases, we match your interests to those of agencies needing your skills and talents.
