Assist State Health Insurance Program and Senior Medicare Patrol counselors by contacting Medicare beneficiaries to compile a list of their health coverage needs.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
Conducting intake interviews to learn more about a client's personal situation, including their health benefits and finances;
Providing clients with basic information about the Medicare program;
Screening clients for programs that may help people with limited incomes pay for their health care;
Screening clients for programs that may help them obtain health services including prescription drugs;
Attending basic and update trainings as required;
Completing require forms and/or reports related to intake activities;
Assisting counselors with client follow-up;
and
Keeping all information about clients confidential.

Mission Statement
The State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) meets one of the most universal needs of Medicare beneficiaries, including those under 65 years of age -- understanding their health insurance needs benefits, bills, and rights. We provide both in-person and telephone assistance to beneficiaries in Prince George's County, Maryland.
The Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) is a program that empowers and assists Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to prevent, detect, and report heatlh care fraud, errors, and abuse through outreach couseling and education.
Description
The State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) provides in-person and telephone counseling to Medicare beneficiaries and their families in the following general areas:
Original Medicare (Parts A and B);
Medicare Part D (Medicare Prescription Drug Plans);
Medicare Supplements (Medigap plans);
Assistance for Disabled Medicare Beneficiaries under 65;
Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans;
Assistance for Low-Income beneficiaries;
Health care fraud and abuse;
Assistance with Medicare appeals and denials, and more.
The Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) Program trains volunteers to answer questions about suspected heatlh care fraud, abuse, and errors as well as doing community outreach and education on these issues.
