To provide information and assistance regarding Medicare and related programs to members of the community.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
Delivering community presentations to a variety of audiences including Medicare beneficiaries, caregivers, and providers on selected topics;
Providing information about the Medicare program to new beneficiaries;
Educating individual beneficiaries on Medicare-related issues via the phone or face-to-face;
Utilizing SHIP materials and other identified resources to stay up-to-date on issues affecting Medicare beneficiaries;
Attending basic and update trainings as required
Completing required forms and/or reports about presentations and other education-related activities; and
Keeping all information pertaining to clients confidential

Mission Statement
The State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) meets one of the most universal needs of Medicare beneficiaries, including those under 65 years of age -- understanding their health insurance needs benefits, bills, and rights. We provide both in-person and telephone assistance to beneficiaries in Prince George's County, Maryland.
The Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) is a program that empowers and assists Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to prevent, detect, and report heatlh care fraud, errors, and abuse through outreach couseling and education.
Description
The State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) provides in-person and telephone counseling to Medicare beneficiaries and their families in the following general areas:
Original Medicare (Parts A and B);
Medicare Part D (Medicare Prescription Drug Plans);
Medicare Supplements (Medigap plans);
Assistance for Disabled Medicare Beneficiaries under 65;
Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans;
Assistance for Low-Income beneficiaries;
Health care fraud and abuse;
Assistance with Medicare appeals and denials, and more.
The Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) Program trains volunteers to answer questions about suspected heatlh care fraud, abuse, and errors as well as doing community outreach and education on these issues.
