Mission Statement
The mission of Loaves and Fishes Ministry, Inc is to empower low-income K-12th grade youth and their families to overcome individual challenges in order to achieve healthier and more fulfilling lives. We acomplish this through out-of-school programming using a long-term, relationally based holistic approach to development that involves enrichment of the mind, body and spirit. We strategically collaborate with schools, non-profits and the community to provide critical support to the youth and families we serve.
Our program goals are:
1. To provide the children & youth with a continuum of carefully selected, well trained staff and mentors whose care and support inspires the children to believe in themselves and their ability to achieve a meaningful future.
2. To create motivational academic and experiential learning opportunities within which children & youthwill explore individual interests and succeed at their own rate, working with teachers to ensure that school curriculum is paralleled and enhanced at each grade level.
3. To foster abilities in children& youth to make wise choices and take action to help themselves and others, culminating in graduation from high school with competent social skills, responsible character, and leadership ability, workforce preparedness, and aspirations for higher learning.
Description
We are a small, private, non-prifit organization located in Raleigh, North Carolina. We run an out-of-school program for at risk children K -12. They participate in an array of activities each day at Loaves and Fishes. With the help of trained staff and community volunteers, students receive one-on-one assistance with homework, school projects, and skill development in reading and math. Computers are available for homework assistance since most of our students do not have access to this technology at home. Enrichment activities provide a creative outlet for self-expression and a chance to develop special non-academic interests. Students learn healthy socialization behaviors and problem-solving skills to carry with them into responsible adulthood.
