ORGANIZATION: Interim Hospice

Duties: -Allow patients to express themselves through art or music -Take an active role in sessions by playing, singing, painting, drawing and listening -Encourage clients to take part in the session, and supporting them Requirements: 4 hour Initial Volunteer Training Class, application, criminal background check, TB skin test. Qualifications: Patience, compassion, flexibility, dependability and good active listening skills are needed. The volunteer must be able to put the patient's interests first. Talent in an art form. Tools/instruments required to perform volunteer services. Time Commitment: Visits are commonly made one to three times a month and are approximately 30 minutes to an hour long. The plan of care will be created with patient needs and volunteer availability in mind. We ask that volunteers to commit to a minimum of 2 hours a month. Location: Companion visits take place in the home of the patient whether it is a private residence, assisted living facility, or nursing home. Benefits: Being able to serve patients by helping them achieve positive changes in mood, relaxation, peace and comfort, anxiety and stress reduction, and memory recall, reminiscence and satisfaction with life. Continuing education in end-of-life issues is available to all volunteers.

Volunteers provide important services to the community. Whether it's providing companionship to a person in the final months or weeks of life, offering support to family members and caregivers, providing assistance in the office or helping with community outreach, the contributions of volunteers are an essential part of Interim Hospice & Palliative Care. And, there is no greater feeling than knowing you have made someone's day just by being you.
