Come sail with us! Our Volunteer Orientation meetings are held the 3rd Saturday of every month (except December) at 10:00 AM in our DECK House. This facility is located close to our boats at Berth 78 in San Pedro's Ports O' Call Village.

Parking in the Village is free. Berth 78 is near the San Pedro Fish Market and the Candy Store, and is visible through the open grass area between them. Take the sidewalk to the left of the Candy Store. Turn right when the sidewalk does. The gate to our dock will be on your left. DECK House is the second shop on the right (# P-3).

Questions? Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Marann Fengler, at (310) 833-6055 or email volunteercoordinator@lamitopsail.org.

We look forward to meeting you and introducing you to our life-changing TopSail Youth Program!

See you soon!

Mission Statement

The Los Angeles Maritime Institute (LAMI) serves to empower youth to discover their greater potential through extraordinary at-sea experiences aboard educational sailing vessels built to train and equip young people with 21st century leadership skills, and inspire maritime and STEM career paths.

Description

TopSail Youth Program is an education and adventure experience aboard a tall ship consisting of day sails, voyages, or both. Skills gained include team-building, problem-solving, decision-making, planning, self-reliance and leadership.

A full program consists of a series of day sails scheduled over a period of several months. Each day’s activities build on the skills and knowledge gained during the preceding sailing days. Participants then utilize their new-found sense of empowerment and teamwork on the multi-day voyage where they sleep aboard and sail the vessel, prepare meals, determine each day’s activities and much more.
