This volunteer position involves interviewing clients in the local community who need emergency assistance, identifying their needs and providing assistance if available and/or referring clients to another agency. Information and guidelines will be provided. This position also includes assisting with Thanksgiving and Christmas sign ups and distribution. Volunteers are needed Tuesday through Friday from 9am-4pm however shifts are available if volunteer cannot commit to a full day.
Volunteer should have good interviewing and listening skills. Volunteer should be able to write down client information and have a willingness to serve and help others and must maintain and protect the confidentiality of our clients and refrain from disclosing sensitive information. Volunteer should be able to work with a diverse group of people and have sensitivity working with those in crisis.

Description
The Salvation Army New Jersey Division has been assisting New Jersey residents since 1880. Services and programs include food for the hungry, companionship to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter for the homeless, food pantry/feeding programs, opportunities for underprivileged children, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled and many more services for those in need.
The Salvation Army New Jersey Division currently has 28 Corps Worship & Community Centers throughout the State, 65 Service Units, adult rehabilitation centers, a residential camp and an active Emergency Disaster Services program.
