The Salvation Army in East Orange currently needs volunteers to help with their After School Program. Duties include: walking students from local schools; dinner preparation; tutoring students; mentoring students; guiding students in center activities (i.e. art, math, science, social studies, literacy, technology) and engaging students in outdoor activities.
Volunteers must enjoy working with children and previous experience working with children would be a plus. Volunteers should be able to lift at least 30lbs and be able to work with a diverse group of people. Volunteer should be able to volunteer at least one afternoon per week to ensure consistency. Volunteer should also have a desire to work with children aged 6-12 years old. Male volunteers are especially needed to mentor and provide homework support to male students. Volunteers helping with dinner preparation should have experience in food prep and should have a Serve Safe Certification (not required but would be a plus).

Description
The Salvation Army New Jersey Division has been assisting New Jersey residents since 1880. Services and programs include food for the hungry, companionship to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter for the homeless, food pantry/feeding programs, opportunities for underprivileged children, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled and many more services for those in need.
The Salvation Army New Jersey Division currently has 28 Corps Worship & Community Centers throughout the State, 65 Service Units, adult rehabilitation centers, a residential camp and an active Emergency Disaster Services program.
