The Early Learning Center is looking for individuals who enjoy caring for and interacting with infants and toddlers ages 6 weeks through 3 years.
Our center is open from 8 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday. Typical volunteer shifts are 8:30am - 12:15pm or 12:15pm - 4:00pm, one day per week.
Our volunteers do one or more of the following during their shift: read to, sing and play with, and work on specific developmental activities/tasks with individual infants and toddlers. Volunteers also occassionally feed, rock and hold babies (with the exception of diaper changes!).
The steady presence of volunteers in our center ensures a low adult-child ratio, a calm and stable atmosphere, and personal engagement and bonding opportunities for the children we serve.
If this sounds like the volunteer opportunity you've been waiting for, we would love to hear from you!

Description
The Early Learning Center (ELC) is a licensed child care center that serves infants and toddlers residing at The Salvation Army's White Shield Center, a residential treatment program for young women and their children.
ELC is influenced by Reggio Emilia, a child-centered educational philosophy which encourages the incorporation of family, community and nature into the learning environment and curriculum. We care for children ranging in age from 6 weeks through 3 years. We work closely with parents to provide the highest quality of care for our infants and toddlers.
As well, we offer a small number of openings in our center to the children of White Shield staff members, and children from the surrounding community, when space is available. Residents of White Shield Center are always given priority placement.
