ORGANIZATION: Kinship Greater Twin Cities

  • 7 people are interested

Kinship is a one to one mentoring program where we match individuals, couples adn whole families to kids ages 5-15 who are hoping for a mentor to include them in their lives once a week. Some of the kids have learning disabilities, speech delays, extreme shyness, mild autism, behavior issues, struggle with social skills but all want to just be a kid and have acceptance of being themselves. If you feel you have the heart to include a child in your life on a weekly basis for one year, please give Penny a call at 763-862-6755 to learn more.

Monthly activities and support offered. Training included.

Mission Statement

Kinship Greater Twin Cities believes that every young person needs a role model. Kinship youth are matched with community mentors who foster supportive, holistic, and authentic relationships. Mentors and mentees are carefully matched based on common interests, aspirations and, when desired, faith connections. Kinship believes that the mentoring relationship is a mutually beneficial opportunity for all parties to grow. Kinship commits to providing resources and opportunities for youth and their families throughout the greater Twin Cities.

Description

Kinship actively invites individuals, couples and families into mentoring relationships with boys and girls ages 5-15. Focused on building lasting friendships through fun activities and quality time, the mentoring program creates sustained, supportive connections capable of giving youth the life skills they need to succeed. Kinship's mentoring model requires mentors to spend 2-4 hours per week with their mentee and are encouraged to participate in community events and activities centered around the youth's interests. Discovering new experiences together is also encouraged, opening the door for academic, social, and emotional growth. Life skills and work preparedness are also essential to our mentoring model, as well as optimism for the future and healthy living.
