ORGANIZATION: Wheatley Farms and Arts Center - AHRC Nassau

AHRC Nassau is a not-for-profit member-based organization whose strength has always been in its members. Our membership numbering over 10,500 is vital to our ability to continue to meet the needs of individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities today and in future generations. It is through our collective voice that we influence our elected officials who decide how much will be spent on programs for children and adults in AHRC programs. Membership is very important in our effort to continue to serve these individuals and their families! On October 3rd, 2013, we will be celebrating the members of AHRC Nassau with our Annual Membership Luncheon and Fashion Show! Help us to facilitate this wonderful event!!

Location:

AHRC Nassau, 115 East Bethpage Road, Plainview, NY 11803, US

Mission Statement

The mission of AHRC Nassau is to advocate for, teach and assist children and adults with developmental disabilities to make life choices, exercise independence and develop responsibility. In this endeavor, AHRC Nassau encourages all individuals to fulfill their dreams and become productive members of the community. This is accomplished by providing an array of individual and family supports.

Description

AHRC Nassau provides an array of support services to more than 2000 children and adults with developmental disabilities through a variety of programs (Residential, Education, Vocational, Child Care, Supported Employment, Respite, Recreation, Benefits/Entitlement, Clinical & Medical).

From gardening to music to movement, Wheatley Farms is not only a part of AHRC Nassau’s Day Habilitation services, but a place for the community to come together. People with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), including autism, can connect with their passions while engaging the local community through recreational, social and volunteer opportunities. Wheatley Farms will grow to become fully inclusive and available to people attending all AHRC Nassau Day Habilitation programs. We seek to connect people based on their shared interests in the arts and operation of a functioning farm. We invite friends and neighbors to join classes, tours, and community-related events.
