Position: Family Literacy Intern
Type: Volunteer Position
Time Commitment: 2-4 hrs/week
Reading Connections Mission: To provide and advocate for free, individualized adult literacy services to promote life changes for residents of Guilford County, North Carolina and surrounding areas.
Position Description: Reading Connections is looking for a Family Literacy Intern, who will be primarily responsible for assisting program staff with the planning and implementation of our Family Literacy program. The Family Literacy Intern will also help maintain the Reading Connections database and assist with paperwork, filing, and other administrative tasks.
This is a volunteer position that works as a member of Reading Connection’s Family Literacy Team and requires participation in regular meetings (1 per month) and training. In return for the volunteer hours, the benefits to the volunteer candidate may include: job reference letter from the Executive Director of Reading Connections or the immediate supervisor, experience gained while volunteering on various projects, networking opportunities, and current resume entry. Most importantly, you will be helping Reading Connections work towards it's mission.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Material handling and inventory of books and supplies.
- Support research of new curriculum prospects for the family literacy program.
- Assist with program recruitment
- Conduct other duties related to successful family literacy program implementation.
Qualities and Skills:
- Ability to work comfortably with English Speakers of Other Languages.
- Candidates must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly-organized.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, take initiative, work independently and as a team-member.
- Ability to meet deadlines while also paying close attention to details and accuracy.
- Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
- Flexibility and strong commitment to collaboration.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and commitment to professional ethics.
