About Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven

Location:

37 Union Street, New Haven, CT 06511, US

Mission Statement

The mission of Habitat for Humanity International is the elimination of poverty housing by building affordable, decent houses for God's people in need. To further that mission, the mission of Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven is to work in partnership with families and the community. We welcome people from all faiths--or none--to join us in helping to eliminate poverty housing.

Description

Habitat houses are constructed or rehabilitated by volunteers using donations of building materials and contributions from public and private organizations, religious institutions, and individuals. Homeowners provide sweat equity, as well as a small downpayment. Habitat homes are purchased via a 25-year, zero-percent interest mortgage enabling many families who do not qualify for a conventional mortgage to become homeowners.
