For every volunteer that signs up with the Color Run Savannah, Horizons earns a donation! Enjoy the party and help Horizons!

Maybe the most unique volunteer job in the WORLD! Yeah we said it. This job includes throwing powdered color at racers as they pass our 4 color stations. You will get really colorful (read: get head to toe fully covered in colored paint powder). Make sure that you wear old clothing, as they will get covered and stained, do not wear brand new shoes etc. You will also be the front line of our cleaning crew. Color Zone Volunteers will work for 30-40 minutes after the last runner passes to sweep and dispose of the excess color and prepare the course to be re-opened to the public. All color zone volunteers have to be over 16 years old, this is a high intensity job, you have to be able to follow directions and lift a minimum of 25 lbs and you will be asked to help clean your station following your shift. Act fast, these spots fill up.***We promise to do our best at getting you a chance at being a color thrower, but this position will be a first come, first serve position for our volunteers. The earlier you get to the course on race day, the more likely you'll be to get this job!***

About Horizons Savannah

Location:

Mission Statement

The mission of Horizons is to provide students from low-income families in the Savannah area an academic, cultural, and recreational program designed to help close the achievement gap by preventing summer learning loss and encouraging academic growth.

Description

Horizons Savannah, an affiliate of Horizons National, provides 6 weeks of summer enrichment programming to low-income students in the Savannah, GA area. Our program is hosted by two independent schools, Savannah Country Day School and Bethesda Academy. Once admitted to our program, students participate in rigorous academic study, recreational activities and swimming lessons for 6 weeks out of the summer. We place a high emphasis on retention and our goal is to serve the same students for 9 consecutive summers. In the end, our goal is that these students remain on grade level from Kindergarten through the 8 th grade, instead of falling behind due to summer learning loss. Numerous studies and recent research has shown that low-income students are more disproportionately affected by summer learning loss, losing as much as 2-3 months in reading skills each summer--and the loss accumulates over time setting students back by as far as 2 grade levels behind their middle and upper income peers by the 5 th grade. Students attending Horizons reverse this trend gaining on average 2-3 months worth of skills each summer.
