The Pets for Vets program is dedicated to supporting veterans and providing a second chance for shelter pets by rescuing, training and pairing them with America’s veterans who could benefit from a companion animal. We are a volunteer-run organization, with chapters in several states, and we are expanding every year with a goal of a chapter in every state. The role of a trainer is to work with the local Head Trainer to review veteran applications, meet with veterans, selct dogs and ultimately place dogs. We are currently looking for trainers in the Phoenix, Arizona area who have a passion for pets and vets to help grow this chapter. Please send letter of interest, letting us know why you would like to take on this volunteer role.

Mission Statement
Pets for Vets enriches the lives of Veterans by creating a Super Bond with custom trained working animals.
Description
Pets for Vets selects shelter animals for each veteran to match his or her personality. Professional animal trainers rehabilitate the shelter dogs using positive reinforcement and teach the dogs foundational behaviors and skills to fit into the Veteran's lifestyle. Training can include desensitization to wheelchairs or crutches and recognizing and reacting to panic or anxiety disorder behaviors. Each pet will be spayed or neutered, healthy, up to date on vaccinations and micro-chipped. Each veteran-pet match is provided with all of the necessary equipment to start their new life together. This program is provided at no cost to the Veteran.
