This is a special request for a special volunteer. There is a senior lady, who is both deaf and blind, residing in Elgin, looking to our organization in order to matched her with a friendly visitor. This lady is very independent and keeps her home immaculate. She is able to communicate with American Sign Language, which the potential volunteer could sign into her hand. She is also happy to go outside of her home with the help of a wheelchair. The family is involved and would be part of the interview process. This is a special request, however imagine the gratification you will receive as a friendly visitor.

AmeriCorps Seniors/RSVP provides opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, day care centers, police departments, hospitals and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.
