Volunteers requested to help care for the BARKS cats housed at PetSmart of Newton. Cat care occurs 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays. Duties include scooping, cleaning, and providing food and water. We will provide orientation. Time committment is 1-1.5 hours per shift. Please be comfortable with cats, and with working in a small room.
There are 2 shifts each day. Can you commit to volunteering either one morning or one evening per week? Morning care is needed between 7-9am and evening care is needed before closing time, which varies. For example, weeknight care would need to occur between 4pm-8pm since PetSmart closes at 9pm.
"Primary Caretakers" commit to regular weekly shifts, but if you can't manage that, "Backup Caretaker" coverage is also needed. Encourage a friend to sign up as well and you can work together as a team.
Help make a difference in a kitty's life - your volunteer work will pave the path to their forever home! Thank you for considering joining the BARKS Team.

Mission Statement
BARKS (Byram Animal Rescue Kindness Squad) is a nonprofit, volunteer-based animal rescue organization serving the community in Sussex County, NJ since 1973. Our mission is to provide shelter, veterinary care and permanent placement of stray, abandoned and displaced cats and dogs. We advocate a no-kill policy and promote alternative methods of reducing animal overpopulation such as affordable adoption and spay/neuter programs.
Description
BARKS is funded solely by private, individual donations, adoption fees, fundraisers, and income from semi-annual garage sales held in April and October. BARKS has been helping homeless, injured, abandoned and abused animals since 1973, and needs your support to continue our work helping animals. We maintain adoptable cats and dogs at the Byram Pound, and cats at the Newton PetSmart. By donating just an hour or two a week, you can provide crucial support needed to keep our animals clean, happy and ready to be adopted into forever homes.
