Want to spend time with some shelter dogs, but not physically able or just can't handle the summer heat? The SPCA Albrecht Center's Read & Relax program may be the perfect fit for you!
Developed by the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland in Westbrook, Maine, "Read and Relax" decreases the stress levels of dogs on the adoption floor by teaching them to remain calm in the presence of humans without having to be the center of attention - in other words, just hang out. Volunteers can bring their own folding chair and book, or borrow one from us. Did we mention the dog kennels are air conditioned and usually quiet?
To get started, please attend a Shelter 101 Information Session at the shelter. Further information and session dates/times can be found at our website: https://www.letlovelive.org/how-to-help/volunteer/
