Open Door Family Medical Centers, Ossining Site

We are desperate for chubby board books for toddlers! Please donate or please host a book drive with your friends, at your business or at your school.

Open Door Family Medical Center's Reach Out and Read Program is a year round literacy program working to instill a love of books and reading for preschool children. The long range goal is to promote kindergarten readiness.

Our volunteers read books aloud to young patients in our waiting areas and help the family select books to take home to promote reading at home.

Each summer we are fortunate to have additional reading volunteers and this increases our need for books to read with the children and to send home with the families. We would like to be well stocked with books by mid-June. Please consider hosting a drive sometime now through the end of May. What we need are dchildren's picture books and chubby board books. Our volunteer readers read aloud with our young patients and help them select a book to take home.

We believe that early literacy makes a tremendous difference for children. Our program is a simple way to help improve children's success in school and life!

Donating books is a great way to free up space in your home, to go greener, to share the books that you know your children loved with other children.

Most of the children we serve have very limited access to books, especially during their preschool years. Please help every book counts!

Donations may be taken to any Open Door location:

Ossining Open Door: 165 Main Street, Ossining.

Port Chester Open Door: 5 Grace Church Street (entrance on Purdy Street)

Sleepy Hollow Open Door: 80 Beekman Avenue
