AmeriCorps Youth Employment & Self Sufficiency Aide (Children, Youth and Family)

Support immigrant & refugee youth and their families in their quest for education, employment and self-sufficiency.

Requirements: Willingness and ability to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds, many of whom are new English learners; must exhibit cultural sensitivity and appreciation, as well as a zeal for service.

Desired Skills: Knowledge of Asian Pacific American cultures beneficial; ability to speak, write, and read English and Chinese (Mandarin and/or Cantonese) preferred; bachelor’s degree in social service, education or related field preferred. Experience with Limited English speaking youth and their families who are culturally diverse, and academically and economically disadvantaged desired.

Hours: Full Time

Within the Children, Youth, and Families program the AmeriCorps Member will use lesson plans and curricula developed by the City of Seattle Human Services Department, learning and utilizing a family-based and school, and community-based approach when carrying out his/her duties. The Member will assist with the Integrated Youth Job Readiness Training Program. This includes helping immigrant and refugee ELL high school students with career planning and guiding their parents through financial literacy trainings. AmeriCorps Members in the WSC team will participate in regular team and agency meetings, and mandatory Washington Service Corps trainings. Regular and prompt attendance, cultural responsiveness and a passion for service will also be required. The Member will measure performance using economic opportunity targets, with a focus on improving financial literacy and financial knowledge and assisting individuals who seek jobs. Members will report their outcomes on a quarterly basis.

ACRS is the largest multiservice organization serving all the different Asian Pacific American communities - immigrants, refugees and American born - in the Pacific Northwest.
