Requirements: Willingness and ability to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds, many of whom are elderly or new English learners. Must exhibit cultural sensitivity and appreciation, as well as a zeal for service.
Desired Skills: Knowledge of Asian Pacific American cultures beneficial; ability to speak, write, and read English and an Asian language preferred. Bachelor’s degree in education or related field preferred.
Program benefits: Childcare (if eligible), health coverage, stipend, training, and some transportation assistance.
The AmeriCorps member will aide the Employment and Citizenship Program by providing direct services to immigrants and refugees; recruiting and supervising volunteers; and conducting outreach activities in the community. As a Citizenship and New American Program Aide, he/she will provide individual assistance and classroom instruction to immigrants and refugees seeking citizenship services. Responsibilities will include: serving as a citizenship case manager; helping individuals apply for citizenship or other immigration services; teaching a citizenship/civics class; leading a "Talk Time" English conversation class; providing one-on-one ESL tutoring. They will attend weekly team meetings as well as occasional immigration and legal trainings.

Asian Counseling and Referral Service (ACRS) is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization offering a broad array of human services and behavioral health programs to Asian Pacific Americans in King County. ACRS is the largest multiservice organization serving all the different Asian Pacific American communities - immigrants, refugees and American born - in the Pacific Northwest.
