Westchester Library System is seeking additional volunteers to serve as counselors for their Senior Benefit Information Centers (SBICs). SBICs offer older adults (60 ) achieve a better understanding of Medicare health plans, prescription drug coverage, and other benefits available to seniors - saving them time and money.

Volunteer counselors receive training from subject specialist, including the Medicare Rights Center and other expert nonprofit agencies. A site coordinator provides guidance and ongoing training, and fosters a collaborative problem-solving environment.

Current volunteers include a committed team of active and retired professionals from all fields who are comfortable with technology, have excellent interpersonal skills, and are able to provide 3 hours per week of consistent service. Some knowledge of the health care system and fluency in Spanish are a plus.

Volunteers are needed for weekdays, generally between 10am and 2pm. Library siites currently needing adult volunteers are: New Rochelle, Portchester and Yonkers.
