Habitat Suffolk's construction leaders
Our crew leaders range from college students to retired men and women.

Habitat for Humanity Suffolk builds decent and affordable housing throughout Suffolk County, New York. Crew Leaders provide leadership and guidance to small crews of volunteers on Habitat Suffolk construction sites.

What are the requirements to be a crew leader? To be a crew leader you must be willing and able to volunteer regularly, at least two times a month. You must be willing to teach and lead others as well as to learn.

What does it mean to be a crew leader? What are the crew leader's roles and responsibilities? As a crew leader, you are assigned one or more tasks to complete for the day. Crew leaders work with their fellow volunteers to complete construction tasks to standard. On days where we have groups of volunteers, crew leaders are tasked to step back and supervise. A crew leader's responsibilities are volunteer interaction and the application of appropriate construction practices.

What training is provided to a crew leader? Habitat provides hands-on training and mentorship for leaders. As a crew leader you will have the opportunity to learn, practice, perform and teach the many different construction practices involved in building a home.

When do crew leaders volunteer? Crew leaders are needed Tuesday through Saturday and typically serve from 8:30am-3:00pm.

Where do crew leaders volunteer? Crew leaders volunteer at various Habitat Suffolk homes all over Long Island. We work throughout Suffolk County from Huntington Station to Westhampton, with half of our homes in the Town of Brookhaven

In April of 2022 Habitat Suffolk merged with Habitat Nassau and create the new affiliate Habitat for Humanity of Long Island We work with over 6,000 volunteers and partner with responsible, low-income families of all faiths and cultures to build and renovate decent, attractive houses in communities in which people can live and grow. Building or renovating a home nearly every month, Habitat Long Island recently celebrated the dedication of our 235th home as we continue our work throughout Suffolk and Nassau County from the North and South Forks of the island to Bay Ridge.
