Reading is fundamental-- and YOU could impact the future of elementary students by reading out loud to them each week!
Reading is the single most important skill for learning and the building block for a lifetime of academic success. Early literacy is what kids know about reading before they learn to read: vocabulary, enjoying books, telling stories, noticing printed words and letters and recognizing smaller sounds in words.
RSVP Polk is seeking volunteers to read out loud to elementary students in schools all over Polk County. You pick the books and bring them to life with your personality while interacting with the children and developing a love of reading.

Description
Leading Through Experience! You've gained a lifetime of experience. Now is the time to put your skills and talents to good use by volunteering through RSVP. RSVP provides opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through non-profit, faith-based, and governmental agencies to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of volunteers with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental accident insurance while on duty, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.
