We are Gentiva Hospice. Our mission is "to provide compassionate care to those we serve during the end of life's journey through our commitment to clinical excellence and uncompromising service." We are seeking volunteers who are compassionate, genuine and truly care about giving back to others. I know, from personal experience, that Hospice is a wonderful endeavor comprised of nursing staff, nurse aides, and others who carry out administrative duties. No direct care is provided by volunteers, but rather volunteers are asked to either visit patients to provide companionship and support through conversation, leisure activities, or by being a supportive presence. Volunteers may also provide respite for caregivers so they can have some time away for themselves. Volunteers can also provide office support through clerical duties such as data entry, filing, or phone calling. At present, our focus is on "honoring veterans," through informal ceremonies, including recognizing and acknowledging the veterans in our service with special thanks to he/she and their families who have sacrificed so much to keep our country free. The program is called, "We Honor Veterans" and we are seeking to provide vet-to-vet companionship/support/recognition and acknowledgement. But, as stated, we will be happy to have ANY volunteer who is compassionate, caring and committed.
