Faith Feeds|GleanKY routinely gleans at Reed Valely Orchard each Monday and Friday mornings.
Mary Powell, the orchard gleaning coordinator leaves Lexington at about 8:30-8:45 am to drive to the Orchard, and arrives there around 9:15-9:30 am. Contact Mary in advance if you want to meet to carpool with other volunteers or follow her to the Orchard (859-255-6555). If you want to go out to RVO on your own, see below for directions. The drive out there takes about 45 minutes, and we usually spend 2 hours gleaning. We use yard rakes to pull the windfalls from beneath the trees, and put the useable pieces of fruit in bags and boxes for delivery. This activity is lots of fun and the programs who receive our gleaned fruit (pantries, church feeding programs, soup kitchens, shelters, etc.) truly enjoy the bounty of this lovely Orchard.
You should wear comfortable clothing and a sun hat, and bring water to drink while we work and a few boxes. We will have extra collecting buckets, rakes, boxes, and other equipment.
Thank you for your interest in helping to provide fresh fruit to the hungry in central Kentucky!
