Mission Statement

The mission of the King County Bar Association's Pro Bono Services (PBS) is to promote social justice by ensuring equal and non-discriminatory access to PBS services for all individuals. PBS programs provide volunteer-based, client-focused legal services to low income King County residents who would not otherwise receive legal assistance.

Description

Pro Bono Services Programs

Family Law Mentor Program

Assistance for low income King County residents who are married or unmarried parents with contested family law cases (dissolution, petitions to establish a parenting plan, or paternity cases) where children are at risk due to domestic violence, child abuse/neglect, or alcohol/drug abuse.

Housing Justice Project

Free legal help for low income tenants facing eviction in King County. Clinics are open Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to noon at the King County Courthouse in Seattle and the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent. HJP also offers a clinic on Monday evenings at the King County Courthouse in Seattle.

Kinship Care Solutions Project

Pro bono legal representation provided through a panel of volunteer attorneys for relatives and other caregivers seeking custody (also known as third party custody) of a child or children.

Self-Help Plus

Attorneys assist pro se clients in non-contested marriage dissolutions and help to establish parenting plans and child support agreements in non-contested cases when the father has already been determined.

Volunteer Legal Services

Pro bono representation for clients with specific legal issues including Chapter 7 bankruptcy, debt defense, estate planning, non-eviction landlord/tenant disputes, SSI/SSDI overpayments, vacating criminal records, and student loan discharge.
