Art Detectives is the Speed’s new object-based and visual literacy program for schools. The hands-on program brings artwork, cultural artifacts, and conservator tools into classrooms and school libraries.

Two trained facilitators work with students during the one hour program. There are a series of activities that give students knowledge about the artwork, artifacts, and tools. The knowledge is then applied as the students are presented with a writing activity that challenges them and allows them to share what they have learned. Art Detectives allows students to interact and actually handle objects while using curator gloves.

Art Detectives brings the museum to the classroom by giving a unique experience to students. The experience gained from the program will help students in all areas of school and life.

Description

The Speed Art Museum, originally known as the J.B. Speed Memorial Museum, is Kentucky’s oldest and largest art museum. From its modest beginnings in 1925, the museum has continued to expand its building and enrich its collection.

Whether you’re an art aficionado or don’t know a Dali from a Degas, you can find fresh inspiration and meaning at the Speed Art Museum. With modern architecture, expanded programming, interactive exhibits and inviting outdoor spaces, the Speed offers countless opportunities for everyone to create their own connections and experience art at their own speed.

At the Speed, we’re working to make the Museum a safe and welcoming place for everyone in our community. Learn more about the Speed’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion: https://www.speedmuseum.org/speed-deai/
