The 2013-2014 AmeriCorps class will give the necessary boost to significantly increase the number of families we are able to serve. In 2013, we anticipate working in 3 of the boroughs simultaneously for the first time in our affiliate's history. We will be returning to Queens to rehab 40 single family homes; building 15 new construction condominiums in Ocean Hill Brownsville, Brooklyn; and kicking off an aggressive Critical Home Repair Program on Hurricane Sandy damaged homes, aiming to complete 100 homes in the first year for Staten Island alone. Members will also assist as house leaders during the Jimmy Carter Work Project in October. This class will be critical to these efforts as we will be coordinating over 50 volunteers per day. Construction Crew Leaders work with our volunteers to build the homes by demonstrating the skills required, providing safety and clean-up directions, and orientating the volunteers on our mission and goals during our morning meeting Construction crew leaders will perform basic demolition tasks such as the removal of drywall, flooring, cabinets, or other common items, during rehabilitation or critical home repair projects. Leaders may also occasionally perform demolition tasks on A Brush with Kindness (ABWK) projects such as the removal of debris, flooring, drywall, or other common items.
Construction Crew Leaders will lead and train volunteers and family partners in the completion of Habitat-NYC projects which could include renovation like tiling, painting and hanging drywall and replacement work.
The Crew Leader will promote team building and provide guidance to volunteers in the pursuit of high quality service and personal development for the members[AN1] .
The Crew Leader will occasionally lead volunteers in the engagement of onsite educational training on affordable housing issues in New York City.
They will model an ethic of service to Habitat- NYC and the larger New York City community and learn about housing issues relevant to the New York City affiliate.
Construction Crew Leaders will be trained in construction skills.

Description
Habitat for Humanity New York City and Westchester County creates, preserves, and advocates for healthy, affordable homes and the generational equity-building opportunities that homeownership provides. With the support of thousands of volunteers each year, we’re building a more equitable New York-to address centuries of unjust, racist housing laws and financing mechanisms that prevented communities of color from entering the homeownership market and shaped the geography of the wealth, health, and education inequality we see today.
