Come join our free Seed Library and Huerta de Dolores Community Garden!
Volunteer responsibilities include seed sorting, repacking, and organizing, as well as performing inventories of seeds and supplies. Other responsibilities include weeding, watering, and planting as needed in the courtyard garden. Timing is flexible, but potential volunteers should be able to commit to one hour/week for at least 6 months.
Additional opportunities might develop, such as the coordination of seed saving workshops and/or seed swaps and the mentoring of new gardeners and seed savers.
The Seed Library at the Cesar E. Chavez branch of the Oakland Public Library is committed to increasing the capacity of our community to feed itself wholesome food by means of education that fosters community resilience, self-reliance, and a culture of sharing.

The Oakland Public Library is a part of the City of Oakland, and has been in existence since 1878. Our locations currently include 16 branches, a Main Library, a Second Start Adult Literacy Program, the Tool Lending Library, and the African-American Museum and Library. We also offer many other special services for residents of Oakland and California.
