Primary Roles:
1. Exhibit docent
Welcome patrons to the exhibit space, introduce the current gallery offerings, and generally serve as a resource for museum visitors.
• Orient visitors to both the space and the gallery offerings.
• Contextualize exhibits by serving as a resource for general background information on the history of Oregon’s Jews and their communities.
• Answer general questions about upcoming events, programs, and exhibits.
• When applicable and desired, lead tours for groups or individuals.
2. On-site education program assistant
Assist the Education Coordinator and other members of the staff with special programs, group visits, and events.
• Help manage group visits (for all types of groups but especially school trips) by leading activities, tours, Q&A sessions, and other programming associated with on-site visits.
• Serve as a resource about general background information on the history of Oregon’s Jews and their communities.
• Help educate visitors on appropriate visitorship - museum etiquette, proper handling of historical materials, etc.
• Assist with any special event details, including (but not limited to) taking tickets, ushering visitors, orienting guests to the museum, and setting/cleaning up special projects.
3. Off-site education program assistant
Facilitate off-site programs; transport and introduce new materials, assist on-site educators, demonstrate OJM activities, and serve as a liaison between OJM and other organizations.
• Transport, in a safe and timely manner, OJM program materials to off-site locations.
• Work with on-site educators to introduce new materials, activities, and historical information.
• Model appropriate research/handling of historical materials.
• Demonstrate and facilitate OJM educational activities.
• Represent the museum in the best possible light to outside groups and organizations.
4. Outreach volunteer
Create relationships between OJM and outside organizations; provide resources for OJM patrons.
• Bring OJM materials to other locations.
• Research community resources (ex. Transportation: trimet, rides from the Robeson, etc.)
• Create connections with outside organizations. - sign up to get neighborhood information, etc.
• Create/collect handouts of maps, restaurants guides, etc.

Mission Statement
The Oregon Jewish Museum is the Pacific Northwest's only Jewish museum, located in the region's second largest metropolitan area. The Oregon Jewish Museum's mission is dedicated to the preservation, research and exhibition of art, archival materials and artifacts of the Jewish people. It is the repository for archival documents, artifacts, and photographs concerning the history of the Jews in Oregon and endeavors to discover and collect all materials that may help to illuminate this history.
Description
The Museum brings innovative exhibitions about the history, culture and art of the Jewish people to this region--cultural enrichments that would be totally absent without its efforts. We aim to provide educational opportunities to a broad range of audiences, from youth to senior citizens, and those from all backgrounds.
