Food Bank Garden

We are looking for one or more experienced gardeners to help maintain the vegetable garden at North County Community Services Food Bank in San Marcos!

To volunteer for this position, you must be familiar with vegetable gardening, be able to distiguish weeds from garden plants, and know when vegetables and fruit are ready to harvest.

Minimum tasks: Your main duty would be to visit the garden weekly and pick any produce that is ready for harvest, and take that produce inside North County's Food Bank. You would also need to water and/or check the irrigation system to make sure it is set up properly.

Other potential tasks: If you would like to be more involved, there is the option to weed the garden, pull plants that have finished for the season, replant vegetables, turn compost, ammend soil, etc. There is no limit to how amazing you can make the garden at the NCCS Food Bank!

Details: NCCS Food Bank is open Monday-Friday from 8am-3pm, so you would need to volunteer during that time in order to take the produce inside the warehouse. It would be possible to spend additional time working in the garden (i.e. weeding) on evenings and weekends as well. The perfect person for this position would be an experienced gardener looking to spend 1-5 hours per week giving back to the community. If you are not an experienced gardener or would like to volunteer more hours per week, we have different volunteer positions that may work for you.
