Make A Difference. In Your Community. In Your Life.
The Arkansas Crisis Center is a serious organization, run by people who believe in the work we do to prevent suicide and save lives. We are seeking like-minded people who are responsible, punctual, capable of working together as members of a team and able to keep the commitments they make.
Our volunteers are sensitive, open-minded, nonjudgmental individuals who get a great sense of personal satisfaction in being part of a collaborative team of people who are devoted to the cause of helping others and preventing suicide. They are a diverse mix of every age, culture and background yet they have one thing in common - a desire to make a positive impact in the community.
Our crisis specialists provide ongoing and immediate support and crisis response to those who are in distress or experiencing trauma, are feeling self-destructive or suicidal or need help getting through a difficult time.
Crisis response and intervention is challenging but also rewarding. Volunteers chosen for this work participate in appx. 70 hours of training covering active listening skills, suicide intervention and crisis resolution. Additionally, volunteer crisis specialists attend monthly continuing education training. ACC staff members are in place to provide support and backup 24/7.
Crisis Specialists may work on their choice of the phone hotline or the internet chat line. Each volunteer is expected to serve on one four-hour shift each week. The work can be performed anywhere you live in Arkansas. However, training currently takes place in the Fayetteville area.
If you are interested in service as a Crisis Specialist Volunteer please contact Susan Hartman at shartman@arcrisis.org or 479-365-2142.
