Certified Peer Support Specialist Volunteer will meet with patients either individually or in a group setting to share personal recovery story. Assist with administrative tasks such as copying and filing. Participate in consumer panels to educate staff about consumer prospective and the benefits of the Certified Peer Support Specialist in the treatment process. Utilize personal strengths and coping skills to assist patients in identifying their own strengths. Educate patients about available community resources. Support patients in their recovery from mental illness and/or substance abuse. May attend and participate in community workgroups.

Description

The Volunteer Services Council (VSC) of the San Antonio State Hospital (SASH) has been improving the lives of patients at the San Antonio State Hospital and the staff who serve them. The funds raised go towards providing SASH patients necessities that make life more comfortable - funds for food while traveling home, bus tickets to search for a job, individual birthday and holiday gifts, special personal items like diabetic shoes, tickets to community activities, events and other items not funded by the State of Texas.
