MDA Summer Camp volunteer descriptions The local district office of the Muscular Dystrophy Association is now accepting volunteer applicants for the MDA Summer Camp program to be held June 6-13 at YMCA Camp Hanes in King, NC. Volunteers are currently needed to fill both counselor and medical staff positions. Volunteer counselors must be at least 18 years of age and commit to serving the full week at summer camp. At this time there is a strong need for male applicants. MDA Summer Camp maintains a 1:1 ratio between campers and counselors and each counselor will complete a thorough training and orientation prior to camp. This is a great opportunity for students going into health fields or anyone interested in working with children with disabilities. The volunteer medical staff serves to maintain the health and safety of the camp community during the week. MDA is currently seeking volunteer registered nurses and physicians that are licensed in the state of North Carolina. MDA Summer Camp has been breaking down barriers for more than 50 years by providing overnight camping experiences for children, ages 6-17, who are living with muscular dystrophy and related conditions. At MDA Camp, children can set aside their disabilities and simply be kids among friends. The program encourages campers to stretch out of their comfort zones, try something new and make new friends - all in a safe, and accessible environment designed to meet their unique needs. Campers enjoy activities such as swimming, fishing, music, arts & crafts and adaptive sports.
