A SPECIAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
The Doula Program to Accompany and Comfort ( www.doulaprogram.org) trains volunteers to visit individuals with life threatening illness who have few friends or family. Visits can take place in their homes, nursing homes or hospitals.
The Doula to Accompany and Comfort will begin accepting applications on March 1st 2016 for our Fall training. Training takes place in Manhattan.
Training is specialized, and continuing education is provided by social workers with extensive experience in end of life care.

Volunteer commitment & qualifications:
-Visit 1 time weekly for a maximum of 1-2 hours
-Visiting days/hours: flexible/your schedule
-Commitment of at least one year required after training completion.
-You must be 25 years or older
Training:
Training: 8 Tuesday evenings 6-8pm (attendance of all 8 sessions required)
Training begins: End of September
Training Location: Manhattan
All continuing education and Program events: Manhattan
The interviewing is a 2-step process that begins with a phone interview and followed by an in-person interview if you qualify.

The Doula Program to Accompany and Comfort's mission is to minimize the isolation and loneliness experienced by individuals with life limiting illness who are experiencing the end stage of their lives with few or no friends and family.
Description
Individuals are known beyond their diagnosis, through special relationships with a Doula Volunteer. The Doula Program to Accompany and Comfort recruits, screens, specially trains, carefully matches and supervises Doula Volunteers who visit individuals weekly in hospitals, healthcare facilities and at home. Our Doula Volunteers will visit one individual weekly.
