'Wheel' Make a Difference: Meals on Wheels Volunteers Needed!

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Horizon Home Care and Hospice

As a volunteer on our Horizon Meals on Wheels Team, you can be a positive influence in our Milwaukee community by helping deliver nutritious meals and loving reassurance. Together, 'wheel' make a difference (corny, but true!).

Weekday drivers are needed to pick-up meals at:

Central United Methodist Church
http://www.centralumcmilw.org/
639 N. 25th St., Milwaukee, 53233

OR

Alexian Village
http://www.alexianbrothers.net/www
9301 N 76th St., Milwaukee, 53223

Service expectations:

  • You will arrive at a meal pick-up site at roughly 9:30am one day each week.
  • Davian’s Catering will deliver warm and cold meals to our meal pick-up sites, where you will package meals and keep them to temperature.
  • You will then deliver meals to grateful recipients on your regular route. Routes have been designed to be both time and cost efficient.
  • Your will complete your shift around 12:00pm, knowing that you have just done something good. What a great start to the rest of your day.

You can serve individually, in pairs or share a route as a team of professionals, friends, etc.

As a local non-profit, our Meals on Wheels program is entirely volunteer-based. Horizon has one the few standing meal delivery programs in the Milwaukee community! We truly need your support in helping to sustain and grow this important program.

Call Terrence Sippel, Volunteer Coordinator, at 414-586-8332 or email him at terrence.sippel@hhch.net.

About Horizon Home Care and Hospice

Location:

11400 West Lake Drive, Milwaukee, WI 53224, US

Mission Statement

Horizon is a home care and hospice provider built on a foundation of care that celebrates the human spirit and the desire for security, comfort, and compassion. We are a professional team of 550+ employees and 150+ volunteers who make a loving difference in the lives of more than 2,500 patients and families throughout Southeastern Wisconsin. The idea of 'home' is central to Horizon. Home means different things to different people, but one thing it should always be is a place where we value each other. It's a place where people genuinely care about the comfort and security of others. We know our purpose is to give our patients home, whatever that means to them, wherever they are. More about Our Local Non-Profit Horizon Home Care & Hospice was established in 1990 and today serves as the second largest full service home care agency and hospice in Wisconsin. We are a local, non-profit organization sponsored by Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital and Columbia St. Mary's Hospital.

Description

Award Winning Volunteer Program

We're some of the nicest people you'll find. Let us get you started on your service experience - we guarantee you’ll feel proud and purposeful. You can choose from one of our many volunteer roles that best match your time and talent.

Hospice volunteers at Horizon serve in many different ways:

They feed our patients. They reposition our patients. they befriend and love our patients.

They offer respite and reassurance to our caregivers.

They run errands, cut lawns, and mop floors in patient homes.

They deliver a friendly smile and a meal to our homebound.

They file papers and send out mailings for numerous Horizon departments.

They serve at agency events.

They arrange flowers - hundreds and hundreds of flowers each and every week.

They welcome our bereaved in the Grief Resource Center and offer a coffee, pastry and listening ear.

They are on-call to be present for those who are actively dying.

They respect and support our staff.

As you can see, our volunteers do a lot for our organization. Come serve with us - you'll be so happy that you did.
